    Sustainable Urban Planning Support

As part of its goal of 'Building with Nature', Terra Nexus offers sustainable urban planning support services, assessing key opportunities and challenges associated with the effective implementation of Sustainability objectives in an urban planning project’s lifecycle.

More than focusing on environmental compliance and regulation, Sustainability acts as a bridge between values to be created and values to be preserved, seeking to reduce a project's impact for construction and operation in the long term.

In light of this, Terra Nexus has now developed a “Sustainable Urban Planning Framework” that puts project proponents and stakeholders’ sustainability goals and objectives at its core, while facilitating the implementation of impactful measures when and where they matter the most.

To successfully achieve this, we have developed a novel approach to sustainable urban planning by formulating an integrated sustainability urban planning framework that bridges the gap between traditional urban planning and sustainability-driven design.

This will serve as a roadmap to support clients and project teams in navigating projects towards creating cities that are sustainable, resilient and conducive to the wellbeing of their inhabitants.

With the development of this Framework, Terra Nexus seeks to provide a structured approach as to better integrate sustainability in the overarching urban planning process, while streamlining expected deliverables and expectations required at each stage of the design, further allowing our clients to preemptively cater for our team’s coordination requirements and approach.

Upon a project’s induction, the initial evaluation of its conditions, challenges and main objectives are to ultimately be translated onto a setlist of “Sustainability Aspects”, representing matters to be prioritized within every project’s sustainability and overarching design and ideation process.

As such, the integration of our sustainability framework into a design is to be reflected into many different aspects, with greater emphasis on energy, water and resource demand reduction, public areas, places of respite and service accessibility, mobility and transportation, waste management, biodiversity and natural resources, and building design and urban management.

Head over here to read our detailed sustainable urban planning framework.

We are proud to be the creators of this framework, that we believe will be revolutionary in the creation of sustainable and resilient communities.

Covering an area of 13 km2, the project aims to create a comprehensive lifestyle community including entertainment components, and essential supporting facilities such as public leisure areas, hospitality, residential, retail and social infrastructure, to be developed in phases. Terra Nexus conducted a comprehensive review of the DMP including the feasibility study comparing the automated Waste Collection System (AWCS) strategy against conventional waste collection methods. A waste generation model and cost benefit analysis has been prepared for the full development encompassing CAPEX, OPEX, and ROI. We have also reviewed the existing storage requirements and validated the design of a solid waste transfer station and onsite composting facility.

The project involved the creation of a mixed-use touristic destination by the coastline. It involved expanding the available land to rebalance the property geographically, optimize infrastructure and reviving a coastal ecosystem. Terra Nexus was contracted to provide environmental design planning services for the preconcept master planning stage, where a baseline assessment was conducted, the opportunities and constraints were identified, and an overall environmental and ecological strategy was developed.
