Environmental Framework / Strategy
An Environmental Framework or Strategy is a project specific plan formulated to provide an overarching environmental charter guided by international standards, national requirements, organizational needs and the overall project brief. This process is initiated at project ideation and conceptualization stage where our team of environmental experts devise the environmental targets that the project will aim to achieve. We will formulate a project specific environmental strategy through a series of workshops culminating in a set of guidelines and processes that guide the proceeding design development stages.
This strategy precedes the environmental design and planning phase and defines the environmental standards, permitting procedures, processes, impact assessment and mitigation approaches that the team will follow throughout the project implementation stages.
An environmental framework typically is comprised of:
- Legislation and Regulations: Outlining relevant laws and regulations that the project will
abide with. - Guiding principles: setting up the fundamental values that will be promoted and
monitored throughout the project duration. - Scope and Boundaries: setting up the spatial and temporal boundaries for which the
environmental assessment will occur. - Environmental Aspects and Impacts: Identifying the environmental aspects that the
project will interact with such as soil, air, heritage, ecology and water. - Mitigation and Management: Devising a plan for mitigating and managing various
environmental impacts. - Monitoring and Reporting: outlining the plan for monitoring environmental
performance and reporting in line with local and international standards.
Such frameworks help organizations, governments and developers make informed decisions
that balance development with conservation, ultimately contributing to sustainable and
environmentally responsive projects.
