International Environmental Standards and Guidelines (IFC/WB/Equator)

International organizations have developed globally recognized guidelines and frameworks to conduct EIA studies and environmental actions plans, some of which are widely used in the region for a number of project typologies. Some of the key guidelines that our team is proficiently familiar and expertly involved in are:

  • International Finance Corporation (IFC) Performance Standards:a member of the World Bank Group, the IFC has established performance standards that include several guidelines that assist and regulate many types of environmental studies and plans.
  • International Association of Impact Assessment (IAIA) guidelines: IAIA is a professional organization that promotes best practices in impact assessment, and has developed guidelines for developing various types of impact assessments.
  • European Union (EU) EIA Directive: the EU has established a directive on EIA that sets out requirements for assessing the environmental impact of different projects within its member states. This directive outlines the EIA process and guides professionals through its various steps.
  • World Bank Safeguard Policies: the World Bank has developed a number of safeguard policies that can assist and guide the preparation of several types of environmental studies and plans. These policies for example are required to be applied for projects funded by the World Bank and are widely used in the region.
